The racing that wasn't.

We had great intentions but it just wasn't in the cards. Friday Chad was ready to race and we drove to Princeton under grey skies. I received a text from Katie at I-94 asking about the weather and the next thing I know it's raining! After parking the trailer, drawing and eating a burger we were on our way home.
Saturday Alyssa & I spent shopping and we visited the Sabraski's (like the new shirts??) and off Chad, Dev & I went to Ogilvie. Chad had a great heat race. He took third against some great competitors. (I think he is getting the hang of driving on the slick track!) He was starting up front for the feature but while checking the car out he discovered some issues and decided not to race to prevent damaging the car. He said it wouldn't be much to get the car going again and we'll be back on track for Friday.
It was still a fun night and we watched some great racing.

Independence Weekend

It was a loooong weekend. I am exhausted and actually looking forward to returning to work and the daily grind. Thursday night we were still rushing to finish the car for the weekend. We didn't see Chad all week but the car was race ready by Friday. Friday night at Princeton Chad placed last in all races. The car's rear end wasn' quite set up and brake problems kept him in back. William had a great night and finished in fourth in the Hornet Feature!
Ogilvie on Saturday for the Fourth wasn't as fun for William. He lost a wheel in turn four early in the race and dnf'd. Chad looked real good but still placed in the back for both of his races. He started towards the back and a slick track and LOTS of dust made it real difficult to move forward. We still had a great time and enjoyed the fireworks after the races.
Sunday William entered the 40 Lap Hornet Race at Ogilvie (I went to the cities to spend the day with Nicole :-). Chad & Dev came to watch William and the Demo Derby that followed. William had another wheel come off the rim and didn't finish the race. Only 12 cars finished at all. 40 laps is a long way for those hornets to go! William said he had a lot of fun, but has some work to do on the car this week.
So far the racing season is off to a late and sad start for Chad. With all the tragedy going on around us though, it really doesn't matter. We are having a good time and are just blessed to be alive and together with the ones we love. Foley lost two young adults over the weekend and two more are in the hospital. All cases of good times turning tragic. Very heartbreaking.

It was fun while it lasted

Saturday night we headed to Ogilvie. We love the track there (big & wide) and the facilites are nice (read: clean!) but the track could still use a little work. After the heat races (and a rain delay) they tried to re-work it to smooth it out but it was still pretty rough. Chad went from fifth to third in his heat and was happy with the car's handling and power.
In the Hornet feature William started 6th and finished 5th. It's more impressive than it sounds. Because he shifts he usually gets passed by 3 or 4 cars at each start. Chad's feature was not so impressive. He made it about 1/2way around the track, he was pushed into the wall, then slammed into from behind and pushed into the wall again. Then the car that hit him was hit by another car pushing him back into Chad.
The car was SO bad that we thought we were already done for the season. The F5 needs a whole new rear end. Chad will be busy all week but we should be racing again on Friday.

Better than DNF

First night out with the new A-mod and Chad's night stunk, but at least he finished. He had the wrong gears for Princeton Speedway and the car still needs a few adjustments. Tonight we go to Ogilvie.

HE'S BACK!!!
